From automated surveillance networks to the courtroom, government power is expanding in ways most Americans rarely see. Technology may change, but the constitutional question remains the same: Who is watching those entrusted with power?

Judges, prosecutors, sheriffs, police departments, and government agencies are all bound by law. Judicial independence does not mean judicial immunity from criminal law. When credible evidence suggests a public official willfully violated federally protected rights, the allegations can be investigated and, where probable cause exists, presented through the lawful criminal process.

We document government surveillance, investigate alleged abuses of public authority, pursue transparency, and educate citizens about the mechanisms available to hold government accountable—from public records and oversight proceedings to criminal complaints and grand juries.
